Gettysburg Area Middle School Spring Musical

It’s time to “seize the day” with Disney’s Newsies Jr., the exhilarating tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When titans of publishing raise distribution prices at the newsboys expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right!

“The pure and exuberant performances given by these student actors will raise your spirits and set your toes tapping,” says co-director Windish.

Adapted especially for young performers and packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message perfect for the whole family, this musical is comprised of a Tony Award®-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award®-winner Harvey Fierstein, and includes rousing songs like “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “King of New York.”

Directed and choreographed by Constance Tarbox and Lance Windish, Disney’s Newsies Jr. features an energetic cast and crew of 48 Gettysburg Area Middle School 6th-8th grade students.

Co-director Tarbox reflects, “After audiences have grown accustomed to watching young adults portray teenagers on stage and screen for decades, it’s amazing how different it feels to watch a story about kids fighting for their rights when the performers are the actual age of the characters involved. It’s heart-breaking, beautiful, poignant, and makes me cry every time.”

Performances will be at 7pm on Friday, March 22 and at 2pm on Saturday, March 23 in the GAMS Auditorium, 37 Lefever Street, Gettysburg, PA 17325.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids and will be available at the door 30 minutes before showtime.

The performance runs approximately 60 minutes and will have a 15-minute intermission.

Concessions, souvenirs and flower-grams will be available for purchase before the performance and at intermission as a fundraiser for the theater program.
